Recording and reconciling day-to-day transactions. Bookkeeping is the systematic recording of business transactions — sales, purchases, bank movements, expenses and corrections — into a ledger that reflects the company's position. In European practice the scope commonly extends beyond data entry to bank reconciliation, accounts-receivable chasing lists, supplier statement reconciliation, document archiving and the monthly closing of the ledger. What distinguishes providers is rarely the accounting rulebook, which is set by law and by the applicable reporting framework, but the operating model around it: who captures the documents, how quickly the ledger is closed, and what the client still has to do.
